We are writing this letter to our fellow residents to show our support for a skate park in Newtown. Our son, Zachary (who is nine), has been skate-boarding for about three years. He loves the sport and practices it everyday. A skate park in Newtown would be a much safer place for our kids than streets or parking lots.

Skate-boarding is a sport that gets kids active, and it challenges them when it comes to landing those tricks. Since participating in a few events for Donate to Skate, we have met some nice families with polite and respectful skate-boarders. All of these families are working hard to get the word out about the park. We still need to raise $50K by October 1, 2009, and we are doing our best to reach this goal. So please consider supporting this great opportunity for our children.

A SKATEBOARD PARK

Benefits to skaters:
• A sense of a place that they can call their own.
• An opportunity to channel their energy to something positive.
• A safe place to go after school.
• A legal park where they cannot receive a citation.

Benefits to the community:
• Kids off the streets.
• A sense of pride in showing that the government, local business, kids (who will one day be voters), parents, and police officers can work together for one goal.
• The town will become a safer place for everyone.

Benefits to local businesses:
• A relief from skaters using their property to skate.
• An opportunity to contribute to the quality of life in their town. Making a better community does make better business.
