NEWTOWN SKATEPARK COMING SOON!

CONSTRUCTION:
Have you noticed all the dirt and heavy equipment that has recently shown up at the Brushy Hill entrance to Dickinson Park?? That's for the SKATE PARK!! Park & Rec has begun the ground work in anticipation of construction. Can you believe that? The park will be done this summer. Wow! This proves that passion and dedication can and do result in victory!

FUNDING
You probably already know that the town budget was approved by voters at the third referendum. This means that we can move forward with construction thanks to $25,000 from the town of Newtown plus a $25,000 match donation from a local family who wishes to remain anonymous. We have tried for many years to secure budget dollars from the town and we are truly grateful to the current administration for listening to our kids and recognizing the urgent need for a skate park.

We must thank all the local skaters who courageously attended budget deliberation meetings and addressed town officials and boards on behalf of themselves as individuals and the youth of our town as a whole. Kudos!! That took a LOT of courage. Of course, the $25,000 match donation offer played a big part in securing the funds from the town and we cannot thank the donor family enough for their generosity and support. We are so humbled and thrilled!

There is still time and a definite need for last minute donations in any amount for signage, landscaping, and other needs. If we secure enough additional funds, we can add more skate elements to the park and supply leisure elements for the skaters (benches, picnic tables, water fountain). If you are interested in making a donation, or if you are interested in purchasing a leisure item which can bear your family or business name, please let us know!

Donation checks should be made out to Newtown Parks and Recreation with DONATE TO SKATE in the memo line and can be mailed to Newtown Park & Rec at 3 Main Street, Newtown, 06470. If you wish to remain anonymous, please indicate that in the envelope. If not, your name or business name will be added to our donor list on DonatetoSkate.com. Advertising for your business can be arranged by contacting us.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to reach out to residents, organizations, and businesses in Newtown and surrounding towns, in order to raise awareness and funds for a Skateboard Park in Newtown, CT.

Our goal is to provide skate enthusiasts with a safe place to skate. Skateboarding is an increasingly popular, healthy form of recreation for our youth. In providing a skateboard park in Newtown, we believe we will give our young folks positive choices of diversion and keep them safely off the streets.

The officials of Newtown have given us an outdoor land site at Dickinson Park upon which a professionally-built skateboard park will be constructed once funds have been raised. Parks and Recreation will support and run the skate park.

We hope the Donate to Skate campaign effort will be an inspiration to any person or group in Newtown for creating other needed recreational sites for our youth, through grass-roots community effort.
